Dominik Szoboszlai joins elite Liverpool company in Champions League milestone
Dominik Szoboszlai has written his name into Liverpool’s Champions League history, becoming just the third player from the club to register either a goal or an assist across five consecutive matches in the competition.
The midfielder’s intelligent free-kick just before half-time proved decisive in laying the groundwork for a convincing 3–0 away win against Marseille on Wednesday evening.
Szoboszlai’s impressive run began in October, when he produced both a goal and an assist during Liverpool’s emphatic 5–1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. He followed that performance by setting up Alexis Mac Allister’s winning strike against Real Madrid, before getting on the scoresheet himself against PSV Eindhoven. The streak continued at Internazionale, where he calmly converted a crucial penalty.
As highlighted by Opta football data editor Michael Reid, only two Liverpool players have previously achieved comparable sequences in the Champions League. Steven Gerrard recorded goal involvements in five straight appearances on two separate occasions in 2008, while Mohamed Salah went one step further, contributing in six consecutive matches between September 2022 and February 2023.
With his latest exploits, Dominik Szoboszlai now stands alongside two of Liverpool’s most iconic Champions League performers, underlining his growing influence on Europe’s biggest stage.
